Version 1
As we journey through life, we inevitably leave a mark on the people we encounter. The love we share, the connections we form, and even the brief exchanges with strangers all serve as proof that we were here. And when our time on Earth comes to an end, those marks don’t vanish. They continue to ripple through the memories, stories, and lives we’ve touched.
Long after we’re gone, the influence we had remains—embedded in the hearts and minds of the people who knew us. These memories will endure, not just for those who knew us personally, but they’ll echo through generations. Our actions, our words, and the love we gave will carry forward, shaping the lives of our descendants in ways we might never have imagined.
As long as we tell stories about our loved ones, as long as we hold their memory close, they live on. The impact they had on us will continue to spread, affecting the way we move through the world, how we feel, and how we think. In that sense, they are never truly gone. Their presence remains, alive in the memories we keep and the stories we share.
Version 2
I’d like to do something a little different. I want everyone here to take a moment with me. Please, close your eyes.
As you sit here, I want you to remember my mom in your own personal way. Think about a special time you had with her. Maybe it was a conversation, a laugh you shared, or a moment when she lifted your spirits. Picture her smile, the warmth in her voice, or that twinkle in her eyes when she was about to make a joke. Let yourself feel that memory.
Whether it was something as simple as sitting together on a quiet day, a holiday meal, or one of those jokes that only she could tell just right—hold on to that. Let it fill your heart for a moment.
[Pause for 1-3min]
Now, open your eyes. I wanted us to do that because, while today is about saying goodbye, it’s also about holding on to the love and memories she left behind. Those memories keep her with us, even now.
As we leave here today, let’s not just say goodbye. Let’s say thank you—for her love, her laughter, and the light she brought into our lives. We will miss her deeply, but we will carry her with us, always. In our hearts, in our actions, and in the stories we continue to share.
Version 3
Today, we gather to celebrate the life of someone who meant so much to all of us—my grandmother, Grammy. For as long as I can remember, she’s been a constant presence in my life. Whether through her wisdom, her laughter, or her amazing meals, she left an indelible mark on all of us.
Grammy wasn’t just a grandmother; she was a storyteller, a teacher, and a pillar of strength. She lived through more than many of us can imagine, yet her spirit was never diminished. Born in 1930, she faced hardships that shaped her into the strong, loving woman we all knew. She was proud of her roots, and even more proud of her family. Her Sunday breakfasts were legendary, and I’m sure none of us will ever forget the warmth of her kitchen or the joy of sitting down to one of her meals.
Her faith was unwavering, and she shared that faith with us in the most beautiful ways. Whether singing in the church choir or guiding us through family milestones, Grammy’s presence added depth and meaning to every occasion.
Though she’s no longer with us physically, Grammy’s legacy is woven into the fabric of our lives. The traditions she passed down, the lessons she taught us, and the love she shared will continue to guide us. As we approach this Christmas, it’s hard to imagine it without her. But I know she’s still here, in our hearts, and that her spirit will always be part of our family.
Rest in peace, Grammy. You will always be with us.
